General FAQ
Q) How do I open the files that end in .rar??
A) You have to download a decompression tool. Either WinRAR or WinACE are good options. You can get them from either http://rarlabs.com or http://winace.com
Q) I wanted to play 'insert game name here', why don't you have it on your site?
A) The reason we don't have the game would probably be due to the fact that there is no way we can put every single old game ever created onto this site, but if you post in our 'Requests' section in the forums, or post an email to Anomonous Guy, we will try our best to find the game you request. Please Note that we cannot always add games due to strict copyrighting reasons or simply due to the fact that the game is still sold and supported by it's publisher.
Q) Why is this FAQ so short?
A) Because DOSBox solves all problems :D
PC FAQ
Q) How do I slow down PC games that run too fast?
A) You can either use MoSlo or DosBox. Personally, on XP it is alot easier just to use DosBox, as this allows the emulation of an old DOS system on your modern PC.
Q) My PC game won't run or flicks to a blank screen, what do I do?
A) The game is probably incompatible with Windows, and will have to be run in pure dos. An easy way around this is to use DosBox, which is a good DOS emulation tool.
Q) Why doesn't the game have any sound with it?
A) Well, the game will have sound 99% of the time, but unfortunately this is a frequent problem with alot of DOS games, and there isn't very much you can do other than mess with the configuration files to try and egt the sound to work. Most of the time on modern computers, DOS games will not function properly. The only other way around it is to use DOSBox.
Amiga FAQ
Q) How do i run the amiga games?
A) You must use one of the emulators (linked to on the right hand side of this FAQ), but unfortunately we are not allowed to supply a kickstart ROM, so you must either port it to your PC yourself from your own Amiga, or purchase it with the Amiga Forever software package. This is for legal reasons, and although the downloads on this site are illegal, the games are no longer sold, so it is, in our opinion, a good thing to distribute these old classics to you because they are no longer sold.
Bit Torrent FAQ
Q) Why have you got an FAQ for Bit Torrents on your site if you don't use them?
A) Well, I wrote this FAQ a while back, when the site was having server difficultys. We tried to use Bit Torrents for game downloads. It worked, to a degree... But it wasn't the greatest method. I keep this FAQ here in case anyone wants to know how to use Bit Torrent, and because we may use it agsin in the future in order to supply some of the bigger games!
Q) What are torrents?
A) Its quite simple really. If you have ever used Kazaa or mIRC or Ares or such then torrents shouldn’t be too bad for you. First of all you must understand that BitTorrent is a new-age P2P program which is much more effective and versatile than any other P2P. You see, what makes Bit Torrent so different from other P2P programs is that whilst you are downloading a program or movie or such, you must be uploading as well. Meaning that as you download pieces of a torrent, you are uploading those same pieces to another person, which makes it easier on the both parties (downloading and uploading).
Q) How do I go about downloading and installing and such from torrents?
A) Good question. First you will need to know that the torrents you download from this site are not the games themselves, but rather refer you to someone who does have the game on their computer. The torrents connect to a tracker, which then tracks down a person who has the program in their torrent directory as well as has a Torrent program currently running on their computer and downloads from them.
Q) Alright great, but that doesn’t answer my question
A) Right. So what you are going to have to do is find a torrent program to download and install on your computer. May I recommend this nifty program called Azereus (http://azureus.sourceforge.net/). If you’re not to savvy with that one you can always get another one from this list : (http://dessent.net/btfaq/#what). Once you have downloaded a Torrent program and have it up and running, then you can download games. So what you do is download the torrent from this site (currently Bud Tucker) and save that file anywhere you want. I recommend right clicking and saving as instead of clicking and then downloading. Once you have saved the torrent to a directory you must find it and double click it to open it up. Now, depending on your torrent program, a message should pop up asking where you would like to save this game. Choose a directory or folder and save it there. A warning here: When you save the game the torrent program will create a “shell” meaning that if the game is 400mb big, it’ll create a shell 400mb big and fill it in while downloading. Make sure you have enough disk space.
Q) This is really getting long and boring can we speed this up?
A) Well not to take up any more of your time, after you have chosen your folder to save it in your torrent program will connect to other people with the game and download from them until the file is complete. Once it’s complete you’re good to go. Just make sure you don’t move the file from the folder you saved it in so as other may have a chance to download it as well. Don’t try to leech either. We will know who leeches and will hunt you down like a pack of wild dogs.
Q) Really you’d hunt us down?
A) Yes.
